About the DESERT ROSE Collection

As my first series of paintings, DESERT ROSE serves as a symbol of perseverance and finding my way back to the light, a return to authenticity and realignment with a path long forgotten. It’s the journey of being born into a feeling of truly limitless possibilities, only to be worn down, redirected, and silenced until finally submission into a fractured hologram of reality. If you get quiet and listen, you’ll hear the whisper in your ear bringing back a memory, a thought, or better yet, a childhood dream that in this practical life, was tucked away for another day.

The desert rose quartz comes into being over an estimated 500,000 years of pressure combined with harsh winds chipping away from form until finally transforming itself into an object of beauty. In a similar respect, these paintings have created themselves by way of aleatoric processes of both pressure and chance. Working entirely on the floor, I manipulate my posture and body as I apply and move the paint in intuitive ways, some might refer to this movement as a trance-like state, and in some ways they are correct. Guided by the pulls and nudges from within, the paint is applied and removed; the canvas is folded and pressed upon, my body hovering over thrusting motions into the work to create something purely from guided imagination.
